Early Domesticated Dogs

Gorham Dogs.JPG

Three sets of down-eared dogs on the Gorham Etching from the Gorham Cave in Gibraltar dating to 36,000 years ago. The breed for the top set of dogs is unclear. The Azawakh (formally “Tuareg Sloughi”) most recently originates from Mali and Niger in Africa where the Tuareg (Amazigh) use the breed as guard and hunting dogs. The Canary dog may originate from the Guanches, an indigenous people of the Canary Islands who had Berber (Amazigh) cultural and DNA links. Might the ancients have found the Cerbrus and Orthrus in these multi-headed dogs?
